Welcome

I’m Ian Thomas, and I’m glad you’ve found your way here.

I’m the minister of an Evangelical Baptist Church here in the UK, and over the years I’ve become convinced of one simple truth: the Bible has the answers we’re looking for. Not tradition, not theological systems, not what’s fashionable, but the Bible itself. I call myself a Biblicist because I want Scripture to speak first and loudest.

That doesn’t mean I ignore what others have said, or that I’m reinventing the wheel. Far from it. It does mean that when Reformed Calvinists and Arminians are having their debates, I’m asking “What does the text actually say?” I study the original languages, dig into the history and culture, look at archaeology, and let Scripture interpret Scripture. That’s the approach you’ll find throughout this site.

What I Believe

I’m a pretribulation premillennialist. That means I believe Jesus is coming back before the tribulation to take His Church home, and that He’ll return to reign on earth for a thousand years. I hold to a dispensational understanding of Scripture because I believe God has dealt with humanity in different ways throughout history, and the Church is distinct from Israel. These aren’t just academic positions. They matter for how we read our Bibles and how we live today.

Above all, I believe the Bible is God’s Word in its entirety. All of it. Every word. When you read Scripture, you’re reading what God wants you to know.

For a fuller statement of where I stand on the major areas of Christian doctrine, you can read my full Introduction to Doctrine pages.

What You’ll Find Here

This website exists to help you understand God’s Word better. You’ll find answers to questions that come up when we’re actually reading our Bibles — the tough ones, the practical ones, the ones that make you stop and think “hang on, what does that mean?”

Some questions come from the verse-by-verse studies I’m working through. I’ve been going through books of the Bible for years now, and those deep studies generate a lot of questions worth exploring. Other questions just come up in life, in conversation, in trying to live out what we believe.

I ran a different website called Sound Doctrine for over 20 years before I closed it down, though I still own the domain. Bible Proclaimer is where the work continues now, organised more systematically and brought into one place: a comprehensive Q&A resource, alongside expository sermons, verse-by-verse studies, and a growing YouTube channel of over 540 videos.

The answers you’ll find here aim to be both biblical and pastoral. Yes, I’ll look at the Greek and Hebrew. Yes, I’ll dig into history and archaeology. But at the end of the day, God’s Word is meant to be lived, not just studied. So expect application alongside information.

YouTube and Other Formats

If you prefer video, you’ll find me over on YouTube at @BibleProclaimer. There you’ll find sermons, answers to questions, and teaching through various passages and topics. Same content, different format.

If you’d rather receive teaching content directly to your inbox, you can sign up for newsletter updates and I’ll send you links to new articles and teaching as they go live.

A Word About My Approach

I don’t claim to have all the answers. I’m a learner like you. But I do claim to have access to God’s Word, and that Word is sufficient. When I write “I think” or “it seems,” I’m being honest about where I’m drawing conclusions. When I say “the Bible says,” that’s non-negotiable truth.

You might not agree with everything here. That’s alright. Think it through. Search the Scriptures. Pray about it. Iron sharpens iron, and we all need to be Bereans, checking everything against God’s Word.

Every article is under constant review, updating where I have more to add, or correcting because my understanding has grown. If you have any questions about articles that already exist, I am willing to be challenged on them, and I will seek to answer each challenge biblically.

Editorial Approach

Every article on Bible Proclaimer is written and edited by Rev. Ian M. Thomas. The content reflects considered theological positions held within the historic evangelical Baptist tradition.

Articles addressing controversial or sensitive subjects, including matters of sexuality, gender, the criticism of cults and false teaching, and the assessment of other religious movements, are written from a pastoral perspective rooted in Scripture. The intention is to equip Christian readers to think biblically about these subjects, not to provoke conflict or animosity. Bible Proclaimer does not promote hatred, harassment, violence, or discrimination against any individual or group. Disagreements with other religious traditions, denominations, or movements are conducted with the aim of clarifying truth, not of attacking persons.

The site does not accept paid sponsorship, branded content, or advertorial submissions. The editorial voice belongs to Bible Proclaimer alone.

Get in Touch

This site is here to serve you. If you have questions, if something needs clarifying, or if you’ve found something helpful, I’d love to hear from you. We’re all in this together, learning, growing, and waiting for that great day when we’ll see our Lord face to face.

You can reach me through the contact form here.

Until then, let’s study His Word faithfully.

Grace and peace to you,

Rev. Ian M. Thomas
