Reading Time: 6 minutesQuestion 10188. We should not try to identify the Antichrist, and I think Scripture gives us several good reasons why not. That may sound like a dull answer in a culture that loves a candidate, but the history of such attempts is a long catalogue of confident men being proved wrong. Let me give the…
Reading Time: 6 minutesQuestion 60079. Fulfilled prophecy is the one line of evidence that Scripture itself puts forward as a test, which makes it different from every other argument in the apologist’s bag. God does not say prove me by philosophy or by archaeology. He says look at what I said would happen and see whether it happened….
Reading Time: 9 minutesQuestion 60071. Christian Zionism has become a term of abuse in a good deal of Christian writing, used to describe a caricature that almost nobody actually holds. Before I defend anything I want to say clearly what I do and do not mean by it. What I hold is that God made unconditional promises to…
Reading Time: 6 minutesQuestion 60066. British Israelism is the claim that the Anglo-Saxon and related peoples of north-western Europe are the physical descendants of the ten northern tribes of Israel, lost after the Assyrian deportation and rediscovered, as it happens, in ourselves. It sounds harmless enough at first, a piece of Victorian eccentricity. It is not harmless, and…

Reading Time: 7 minutesQuestion 9102. The relationship between prophecy and teaching is one of those questions that looks like a technicality until it lands in the middle of a church meeting. Someone stands up in a service and says the Lord has laid something on their heart, and immediately the congregation is asking whether that was a word…
Reading Time: 6 minutesQuestion 09022. We tend to treat guidance as a private transaction, which is why the role of the gathered church in discerning the Spirit’s leading strikes many believers as an odd idea. The modern pattern is that I pray, I sense a leading, I act, and the church finds out afterwards. The New Testament pattern…
Reading Time: 9 minutesQuestion 09013. Whether there are prophets today is a question I answer yes to, with a great many qualifications attached, and the qualifications are not small print.
