Biblical prophecy and the last days: the rapture, tribulation, second coming, millennium, and final judgment.
Reading Time: 6 minutesQuestion 10054. The Great White Throne is the final judgment of the unsaved dead, described in Revelation 20, when they stand before God at the end of the millennium to be judged by their works and consigned to the lake of fire. It is the most solemn scene in all of Scripture, and I never…
Reading Time: 6 minutesQuestion 10053. The Holy Spirit is deeply and actively at work all through the end times, restraining evil, drawing sinners to Christ, and empowering bold witness right up to the return of the King. People often imagine that Bible prophecy is really all about the Antichrist and the beast and the various judgements, and so…
Reading Time: 6 minutesQuestion 10052. Postmillennialism is the view that the gospel will gradually triumph across the world, ushering in a long golden age of righteousness and peace, after which Jesus finally returns at the end of that era. The name itself captures the timing neatly, since post means after, so the position places the return of Christ…
Reading Time: 6 minutesQuestion 10051. Amillennialism is the view that there will be no literal thousand-year reign of Christ upon the earth, and that the millennium of Revelation 20 is a symbolic description of the present age lying between the two comings of Jesus. The prefix a simply means no or not, so the term means, roughly, no…
Reading Time: 6 minutesQuestion 10050. Premillennialism is the view that Jesus will return before the thousand-year reign described in Revelation 20, coming in glory to establish His kingdom on the earth in person. The name itself quietly announces the timing, since pre means before, so premillennialism places the return of Christ before the millennium rather than after it….
Reading Time: 6 minutesQuestion 10049. The millennial kingdom is the literal, thousand-year reign of Jesus on the earth that follows His Second Coming, when He rules the nations from the throne of David in Jerusalem. When people ask me what the millennium actually is, this is the very heart of my answer to them. It is a real,…
Reading Time: 6 minutesQuestion 10048. The Second Coming is the visible, glorious and physical return of Jesus to the earth to defeat His enemies, rescue Israel, and reign as King. When I speak of the Second Coming I mean something quite specific and utterly certain, an event as real and bodily as the first coming in Bethlehem long…
Reading Time: 6 minutesQuestion 10047. The mark of the beast is a coming token of allegiance to the Antichrist, imposed during the tribulation so that no one may buy or sell without it. I want to handle this subject carefully, because few themes in prophecy have attracted more wild speculation and more needless fear than the mark of…
Reading Time: 6 minutesQuestion 10046. The Antichrist is a coming world ruler who will oppose God, deceive the nations, persecute the saints, and set himself up as an object of worship during the tribulation. When people ask me who he is, they usually want a name, and that is exactly the one thing I cannot and will not…
Reading Time: 6 minutesQuestion 10045. The great tribulation is the second half of the seven-year tribulation, the final three and a half years of unequalled distress that fall upon the earth just before Jesus returns in glory. Jesus Himself gave the period its name in the Olivet Discourse, and the term has stuck fast ever since. When I…
